Briarcrest Baseball Claims First State Title in School History

Briarcrest Baseball Claims First State Title in School History

In a dramatic game that began on Thursday but ended on Friday, the Saints outlasted Christian Brothers 12-11 in nine innings to claim the first state baseball championship in BCS history in Murfreesboro.

Briarcrest entered the day in the driver's seat needing only one win after taking the first two games in the State Tournament over CPA and Baylor. The Saints fell earlier to the Brothers on Thursday 4-0, forcing a deciding final game that ended after 1 a.m. Both teams fought through multiple weather delays in what became one of the most exciting title games in Tennessee high school history.

BCS jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the first inning before CBHS fought their way back into the game, eventually forcing extra innings. Briarcrest took the lead for good in the top of the 9th before closing out the thrilling finish to win State.
