BCS Senior to Compete in Westminster Dog Show

BCS Senior to Compete in Westminster Dog Show

Briarcrest students find their passion and purpose in many unique ways. Sela Cooper, a BCS senior, found hers training show dogs for elite agility and obedience competitions. Sela earned an invitation to the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in May by finishing among the top 150 juniors (out of more than 2,000 in the United States) in the sport of junior showmanship in 2023.

In AKC junior showmanship, entrants are judged on their abilities handling dogs in the show ring. Only two juniors from the state of Tennessee qualified to compete last year. Sela has been competing with her dogs for the last several years in many events across the Southeast.

She will be showing Rocket, a 7-year-old Hungarian Vizsla, co-owned with Penny and Bill Buchanan of Echo Vizslas in Marion, Arkansas. Rocket is an accomplished show dog and will be competing against other Vizslas in New York in addition to accompanying Sela in the junior showmanship ring. Good luck, Sela and Rocket!
